Hyundai has officially showcased the Ioniq 5 electric crossover for the Indian market. With the launch scheduled for Auto Expo in January 2023, the South Korean carmaker has also now opened bookings for its new flagship model. Customers can now book Hyundai IONIQ 5 by paying INR 1,00,000 via Hyundai Ioniq 5’s official website.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 Powertrain Specification

While Hyundai hasn’t revealed any mechanical details just as of yet. It expects the carmaker to continue with either a 58kWh or a 72.6kWh battery. This will give it a range of 383 km on a single charge for the former and 481km with the latter, as per the official test cycle. The Ioniq 5 is available in both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations. The smaller battery produces 170 HP with the former and 233 HP with the latter. With the larger battery, the Ioniq 5 makes 217 HP and 305 HP in the rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive guises, respectively. The Ioniq 5 is also capable of superfast 800V charging. With this tech, the EV can charge from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in 18 minutes.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 Price Range

The Ioniq 5 comes in via the CKD route. Thus, Hyundai will assemble the product here in India. This is unlike its cousin the Kia EV6 which comes to India as a full import, i.e. as a CBU. Thus, we expect Hyundai to price its offering more aggressively when compared to Kia. EV6 currently retails with a price tag of INR 59.96 lakh. And Hyundai is targeting a sub-50 lakh price for this electric model. This variation in pricing is due to the difference in customs duty laid down by the Government of India. Being a completely built unit (CBU) EV6 attracts more taxes than a completely knocked down (CKD) Ioniq 5 in India.

Hyundai Ioniq 5 Awards Won

We first saw the Ioniq 5 as the 45 EV concept at the 2019 Frankfurt motor show. The product has won many accolades to date.  Most notably winning the 2022 World Car of the Year award, as well as the World Design of the Year and World Electric Car of the Year awards.
