Hyundai IONIQ 5 BEV & STARIA MPV win GOOD DESIGN Awards

South Korean automotive manufacturer Hyundai has announced that its IONIQ 5 BEV and the Staria models received multiple accolades and awards. The selected models achieved victory in the transportation category of the 2021 GOOD DESIGN Awards as they triumphed across multiple categories. These include interactive media, household, mobile applications, and graphic design, wherein Hyundai’s design team worked hard to pull off the victories. Hyundai also states that its R&D centre engineers worked hard on these cars, for which it received the awards.

Hyundai IONIQ 5 & Staria: Design Details 

The IONIQ 5 is Hyundai’s midsize crossover utility vehicle that utilizes a dedicated battery electric vehicle (BEV) platform. Hyundai utilized a new EV typology design for the Ioniq 5, which has been received well by global customers. The brand has ensured to highlight the signature yet timeless Parametric Pixel lighting system on the Ioniq 5’s exterior. Hyundai has then used a ‘Living Space’ design theme within the interior of the EV that includes the moveable centre console.

Hyundai also has ensured to use of eco-friendly materials to construct the seats, headliner, door trim, floor, and armrest of the EV. Meanwhile, Hyundai’s Staria MPV sports a futuristic yet mysterious exterior that resembles a spaceship thanks to the single running stroke. Covering the entire length of the MPV, the stroke bears a resemblance to a curve of light that illuminates the horizon.

Additionally, Hyundai has ensured to create a cruise ship-inspired interior for the Staria that delivers a unique atmosphere. Along with enhancing the comfort and convenience of passengers, the Staria’s lowered beltlines, and panoramic side windows improve visibility. To create a feeling of openness and spaciousness, the Staria MPV features a traditional Korean ‘hanok’ architecture-inspired interior design.

About the GOOD DESIGN Awards Program and other categories 

The 2021 GOOD DESIGN Awards program celebrated its 71st anniversary, making it one of the oldest competitions in the world. On an annual basis, the program selects product designs and graphics that create new directions for innovation and competition. Within the transportation category of the 2021 GOOD DESIGN awards, Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 and Staria earned their recognition.

Similarly, Hyundai’s Infotainment, EV Infotainment, and N infotainment system managed to earn their recognition in the Interactive Media category. Meanwhile, the Household category featured the HTWO Hydrogen Power Generation System, and the Mobile applications category featured Hyundai’s Bluelink system. Finally, the 2021 GOOD DESIGN Awards featured Hyundai’s Brand Collection in its Graphic Design Category.
