Hyundai India launches Kona Electric at INR 25.30 lakh

India’s first ling range EV has come from brand Hyundai. Hyundai India has announced the launch of the Kona electric model here in our market at an introductory price tag of INR 25.30 lakh. The Kona also comes with a dual-tone paint scheme for an additional INR 20,000. The Hyundai Kona has the same prices across the country.

The Hyundai Kona ideally has no rivals here in our market, till the time Morris Garages launch their eZS. The Hyundai Kona although pitched as an SUV, is more of a crossover. In terms of sizing, consider the Kona to slot between the Venue and Creta in the Hyundai stable.

The Hyundai Kona comes with a 39.2 kWh battery which is a Lithium-ion Polymer unit and needs a AC charging time of 6 hours 10 minutes from 0-100% and a 57 min charging time from 0-80% using a DC outlet. The Hyundai Kona Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) produces 136 PS of power and 395 Nm of torque. Hyundai claims that the Kona can sprint from 0-100 kmph in 9.7 seconds and is a zero emissions pure EV. It has a low drag of 0.29 cD making it aerodynamic, hence reducing the battery requirements. The motor on the Kona comes with Eco, Eco+, Comfort and Sport driving modes. There is also a pedal guide which informs the driver about how he / she is driving, to get a better range. Paddle shifts are also on offer.

The 2019 Hyundai Kona in India gets a shift-by-wire automatic transmission and an electronic parking brake. The automatic box is a single speed reduction gear type. The Hyundai Kona measures 4180mm in length, 1800mm in width, 1570mm in height, 2600mm in wheelbase and rides on 17″ wheels.

Hyundai will offer the Kona in white, silver, blue, black along with a white with black roof paint options.

Noteworthy safety features on the Hyundai Kona include 6-airbags, ESC, VSM, ISOFIX, HAC, ABS, speed alert system, headlamp escort function, EBD, parking sensors with reverse camera, TPMS, automatic headlamps, all-4 disc brakes, rear defogger, burglar alarm and the likes.

The Hyundai Kona comes with exterior features such as LED headlamps, cornering lamps, LED DRLs, LED tail lamps, skid plates, roof rails, rear spoiler, micro antenna, rear fog lamps and body cladding. Interior features include, leather seats, electric adjustment for seats, soft touch dashboard, ventilated + heated seats, 60:40 rear seat split, 17.77 cm touchscreen infotainment, electric sunroof, push button start / stop, automatic climate control, wireless charging, and more…

What makes the Hyundai Kona unique is that it comes with a driver-only air-conditioning option which reduces the battery consumption. The Hyundai Kona also has a Virtual Engine Sound System (VESS) which generates a sound to alert pedestrians about an incoming vehicle.
