Hyundai Creta N Line 190 bhp engine launch soon?
As seen in the latest spy shots that have emerged from Brazil, a production-spec Creta N Line top variant is seen with a 1.6 TGDi badge on the streets. The Nardo Grey coloured car is speculated to have a new, bigger engine, which the N Line will possibly get in the future.
Hyundai offers a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine on the Brazil-spec N Line Creta, which is substantially smaller than the 1.5-litre turbo unit offered on the Indian model. Hence, a new, bigger engine is being tested for the international market.
Visually, the car is nearly identical, leaving aside the bigger 18-inch diamond-cut alloty wheels, as opposed to the 17-inch wheels on the Indian-spec car.
Our speculation says that the 1.6-litre engine will be carried over from the Elantra, which is likely to boost the performance and justify the N Line badge on the Creta in Brazil and the other global markets.
As far as our Indian-spec model is concerned, it already gets the new, powerful, and competitive 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, turbo unit, mated to a 7-speed DCT automatic gearbox. The performance from this spec is already one of the quickest in the segment, so upgrading it in India does not seem relevant.
However, Hyundai has confirmed that it is working on the new-gen Creta, which is scheduled to launch in India in 2027. The new-gen model will offer a complete design overhaul, and maybe the new 1.6 TGDi engine will make its debut in India with it.
Our verdict
The Creta N Line is Hyundai’s answer to the enthusiasts globally. It features the N Line racing pedigree of the brand, with cosmetic upgrades, a raspy exhaust, and modified handling/chassis balance for a better driving feel. The upcoming generation of Creta is likely to get the new and bigger 1.6-litre 190bhp engine.
