Written by Nizam Shaikh

Global NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme) has crash-tested the Hyundai Creta SUV. The charitable institution offers crash test ratings on vehicles under the #SaferCarsForIndia initiative. Global NCAP has revealed that the 2022 Hyundai Creta has received 3-stars for adult occupant protection and 3-stars for child occupant protection. The car received 8.00 points out of 17.00 for Adult Occupant protection and 28.29 points out of 49.00 for Child Occupant Protection.

Hyundai Creta – Adult Occupant Protection

Global NCAP has revealed that the new Hyundai Creta offers adequate protection to the driver’s head and good protection for the passenger’s head. The car provides good protection to both the driver and passenger. However, the driver’s chest showed marginal protection while the passenger’s chest showed good protection. GNCAP also revealed that the protection to the driver’s and passenger’s knees was marginal as they could impact with dangerous structures behind the dashboard supported by the Tranfascia tube.

The driver’s tibias showed weak and adequate protection, while passenger tibias showed good and adequate protection. Also, the bodyshell was rated as unstable, and it was not capable of withstanding further loadings. The footwell area was rated unstable as well. It is important to note that the car offers standard SBR for the driver and passengers.

Hyundai Creta Child Occupant Protection

The Creta does not have ISOFIX anchorages as standard. Therefore, the child seat for the 3-year-old test dummy was installed in the FWF (Forward Facing) position using the adult seatbelt. In this position, the seat could not prevent excessive forward movement of the head and weak protection to the chest. The 1.5-year-old dummy was installed in the RWF with the adult seatbelt while offering good protection to the head and chest. Also, the CRS marking was permanent. The vehicle also offers a lap belt in the rear centre position instead of a three-point seat belt. The above has led to a 3-star in the child occupant protection rating for the new Creta.
