Hyundai Motor India has announced a price hike for its popular SUV, the Hyundai Creta. The price adjustment, which is the first since the launch of the facelifted Creta, does not include any feature enhancements.
Launch and Initial Pricing
The facelifted Hyundai Creta was launched in January this year. The introductory starting price was INR 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom), and it topped out at INR 19.99 lakh (ex-showroom) for the diesel SX(O) variant.
Details of the Price Hike
The price hike has been applied to select variants of the Creta. In the petrol range, the prices of the E 1.5 petrol MT, SX (O) 1.5 Turbo DCT, and the SX (O) 1.5 Turbo DCT dual-tone variant remain unchanged. All other petrol variants have witnessed a uniform price hike of ₹3,500.
In the diesel line-up, Hyundai has not revised the prices of select variants, including the SX (O) 1.5 AT and the SX (O) 1.5 AT dual-tone. However, all other diesel variants have now become dearer by up to ₹10,800.
Creta Engine and Transmission Options
The Hyundai Creta is available with three engine and five transmission options. These include a 115 hp, 144 Nm 1.5-litre NA petrol engine, a 116 hp, 250 Nm 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine, and a new 160 hp, 253 Nm turbo petrol engine. The gearbox options available include a 6-speed MT, iMT, CVT (iVT), 6-speed AT, and a 7-speed DCT.
Despite the price hike, the Hyundai Creta continues to maintain its popularity in India. In fact, in February, the first full month of sales after its launch, Hyundai reported that the model achieved its highest-ever sales in India since its inception in 2015.
The Hyundai Creta competes with several other SUVs in the Indian market. These include the Maruti Grand Vitara, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Skoda Kushaq, MG Astor, and the Volkswagen Taigun.
