Hyundai Bayon revealed, SUV based on new i20

Hyundai has revealed an all-new Crossover SUV christened the ‘Bayon’, in the international market. The brand announces that the Hyundai Bayon SUV is specifically designed for the European market and the B-segment SUV is the smallest member of Hyundai’s SUV family but comes loaded with futuristic yet compact exteriors, roomy interiors and a plethora of advanced safety and connectivity features. The brand also reveals that the Bayon moniker derives from the capital of the French Basque Country, ‘Bayonne’ and the name reverberates with the European styling of the SUV.

Exterior Design & Styling

The Hyundai Bayon features underpinnings from the latest-generation i20 and comes with sharp cuts and crease lines, arrow-shaped headlamps clusters with aero vents that integrate into the lamps, a gloss black finish trough grille, silver skid plates, thin LED daytime running lights on the bonnet, polyhedral cuts on the sides, chrome window underline, black-out A- and B-pillars, black finish on the roof, a shark fin antenna, a sharply raked rear windscreen, with the integrated roof spoiler, a haunch that juts out with the apron, boomerang-shaped LED tail lamps, a thin connecting light element the runs the entire width, silver skid plate on the rear, roof rails, rounded wheel arches and 16/17-inch machine-finished alloy wheels the reverberate with the sharp design language.

Interior Design & Features

On the inside, the Hyundai Bayon features either a Full Black or Dark Grey + Light Grey trim theme and comes with Full Black cloth interior as standard. The infotainment system also comes in two choices – a 10.25-inch AVN screen or an 8-inch Display Audio which comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto makes Hyundai the first car manufacturer to introduce wireless phone mirroring into a car of this size. The Hyundai Bayon also comes with a 10.25-inch digital instruments cluster and wireless smartphone charging. Along with phone mirroring the Bayon also gets the latest generation advanced Bluelink features.

Dimensions & Powertrain

The Hyundai Bayon measures 4,180mm in length, 1,775mm in width, and 1,500mm in height, a ground clearance of up to 183 mm and comes with a wheelbase of 2,580mm. The front passengers get 1,072mm of legroom and the rear passengers have 882mm of legroom. Powering the Bayon is a .0-litre T-GDi motor with a 48V Mild Hybrid system that produces 120 PS or 100 PS of power and come with the option of 6-speed intelligent Manual Transmission or 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The Bayon also comes with Hyundai’s Rev Matching feature that is only on offer on the brand’s performance cars and first time on a Hyundai SUV.
