Hyundai Alcazar could get new cheaper variants

Written by AnantaSaranNayak

Hyundai is looking to boost the sales figure of its mid-size SUV offering, Alcazar. Launched in June last year, the mid-size SUV has been selling in good numbers. In fact, Alcazar matches the sales figure of Tata Safari and MG Hector. To attract more customers, Hyundai is looking to add new base variants that will bring down the price. Currently, the SUV retails in the price range of INR 16.44 lakh to INR 20.25 lakh (ex-showroom). The XUV700 and Harrier already have a lower starting price when compared to the current pricing of the Alcazar. Hence, with the new base trims, Hyundai will look to close this gap.

Details We Have Till Now

These new variants will have both petrol and diesel engine options. Customers opting for the diesel trim can get manual and automatic gearbox options. Meanwhile, for the petrol engine, customers will only have the manual gearbox. The diesel engine is a 1.5-litre unit that makes 115 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque. The gasoline motor is a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated engine producing 159 PS and 191 Nm. ARAI claims a mileage of 14.5 kmpl and 20.4 kmpl for the petrol and diesel motor, respectively.

The carmaker will have to study the market and choose what features to offer with the base trims. With aggressive pricing, we can’t expect Hyundai to offer everything. Thus Hyundai will have to play smart and offer that will resonate perfectly with the customers.

SUVs Ruling The Streets

The demand for SUVs is at an all-time high. Almost all major automakers are shifting their focus towards enhancing their SUV offers. Hyundai Motors India Limited, too is following a similar trend. In fact, the carmaker is India’s largest SUV seller, with its Creta making up a maximum of the volume. Alcazar, which is essentially the bigger sibling, has also received a positive response. Now with the introduction of new base variants, we expect the sales to boost further.
