Husqvarna retro bikes coming in 2016
Written by Parichay Malvankar

Husqvarna was acquired by KTM in 2013. Now, the parent company has decided that the Husqvarna brand will make only retro-styled motorcycles.

Two bikes have already been planned which will take this new product planning forward, which will be the 401 Svarpilen and 401 Vitpilen.

The 401 Svartpilen will be powered by the KTM Duke 390 engine. The exteriors are retro-styled and do not resemble to the KTM motorcycles at all.

401 Svartpilen features:

  • Dual-purpose motorcycle
  • Round, retro-styled headlamp
  • Flat seat
  • Flat tank with a metal bad on top, for luggage carrying ability mostly
  • Exposed chassis
  • Underseat exhaust
  • Upside-down front fork
  • Rear monoshock
  • Front and rear petal disc brake
  • Spoked rims
  • Knobby tyres
  • Short front mud guard
  • Engine sump guard

The 401 Vitpilen is more of a cafe racer type, naked street bike. This bike will also sport the same KTM Duke 390 powerplant.

401 Vitpilen features:

  • Cafe racer like styling
  • Retro-styled round headlamp
  • Sculpted tank going all the way back till the tail lamp
  • Flat tank
  • Flat seat
  • Single dial instrument cluster
  • Upside-down front fork
  • Rear monoshock
  • Exposed chassis
  • Side mounted exhaust
  • Spoked rims painted in gold
  • Front and rear disc brake
  • Short front mud guard
  • Clip-on handlebar

If you look closely at the rear swingarm, you will notice that there will be plenty of part sharing with the KTM siblings. The front forks are also by WP, the same supplier for KTM as well.

Would you mind if KTM plans not to launch adventure models but offer these in that particular niche category? We surely won’t.

Pricing is expected to be on the premium side.
