Written by Nizam Shaikh

Honda could be developing a new global platform which is likely to spawn multiple cars in the Japanese brand’s small and medium-car portfolio. According to a media report, Honda’s new modular platform is likely to be codenamed PF2. Also, reports reveal that the PF2 platform is likely to underpin multiple cars which includes SUVs, as well as sedans. In addition to this, the company is also likely to use the multi-Powertrain strategy while developing the PF2 instead of a Skateboard which only has the option for an electric powertrain.

Sources say that the company does not want its future to be limited to electric vehicles. In fact, decreasing demand in the EV sector has led the brand to adopt a powertrain strategy similar to Toyota. Which means future Honda car platforms are likely to support both ICE as well EV. This also leads us to believe that the Honda is also likely to offer hybrid powertrains and Fuel Cell Vehicles in addition to ICE and EV.

But will Honda bring new Cars to India Based on the PF2?

Reports reveal that Honda could be planning to make car based on the PF2 platform and export them from India. The brand plans to make India the export hub for PF2 spawned cars, reveal reports. This speculation comes from the booming export of the Indian made WR-V. Thank to the low production cost in India, about 10,659 made-in-India WR-V were exported to Japan which is nearly twice the domestic sales volume of the Elevate SUV.

Honda 7-Seater SUV to Launch around 2027

In addition to this, the brand is also likely to bring its first three-row car built on the PF2 to India. The car is likely to be positioned above the Elevate and fulfil the demanding 7-seater segment here in our market. The design & development of the 7-seater car is likely to be done in Japan and Thailand while its production could be here in India. In addition to this, the powertrain is likely to be the same 1.5-litre petrol unit that is offered on the Elevate, but the new 7-seater car based on the MPV could also get a strong hybrid powertrain options. Expect the production of the PF2-based 7-sweater SUV to commence in India in the second half of 2027.
