Written by AnantaSaranNayak

Honda Car India sold a total of 8,188 units for My 2022. Meanwhile, the export figure stood at 1,997 units for the given period. The figure has risen dramatically from May 2021, wherein the carmaker posted 2,032 units in domestic sales and 385 units of export. Honda also reiterated the issues concerned with the supply chain, which is causing some hindrance to catering to the demand effectively. Honda’s latest introduction, City e:HEV, has received quite an overwhelmingly positive response from the market.

Honda India Bound SUVs In Works

With the demand running high for SUVs in the market, Honda is preparing two models for compact and mid-size segments. The compact SUV will replace the WR-V that is on sale currently. Meanwhile, the mid-size SUV will take on Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and likes. We have reports that suggest both the SUVs will use Amaze’s platform as the base. Previously it was reported that Honda might use City’s platform for both these models.

We expect to see a lot of shared parts and similarities with the fifth-generation Honda City. Both the Japan and India team will involve each other in the design and engineering. Hence we could see some India specific touches as well. Honda has not announced an official date yet. But we understand the compact SUV will arrive sometime in the middle of 2023. Meanwhile, the mid-size SUV could arrive sometime in 2024.

Other Updates

Honda recently updated the feature list of its 4th generation City, which is still on sale alongside the 5th generation and the new City e:HEV. Available in two trims, SV and V, the base SV now gets a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system. With this addition, though, the base price has not increased, and the model is available at an attractive price of INR 9.29 lakh (ex-showroom). For the 5th generation city, Honda has decided to remove front and rear mudguards for the V trim. In addition to this, the interior door handles that got the chrome treatment are also no longer available.
