Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer Honda 2Wheelers has resumed the hunt for young racing talent to become the next-generation Iconic Indian Rider. With this event, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI) aims to train next-gen riders for professional racing events. HMSI will now conduct round 3 of the IDEMITSU Honda India Talent Hunt 2021 at the Chicane Circuit in Hyderabad. Round 3 of the event will witness the participation of 8 amateur riders, aged between 16-17 years old, from 6 cities. These cities include Hyderabad, Jangaon, and Mancherial in Telangana, Vijayawada and Vizag in Andhra Pradesh, and Hardoi in Uttar Pradesh.
Candidate Selection Process & Purpose
HMSI states that it developed the IDEMITSU Honda India Talent Hunt as a platform to recruit aspiring and budding racers. They started the event in 2021 in Chennai, where two shortlisted riders showcased their racing talent and potential on track. During phase 2, the event moved to Hyderabad, where HMSI shortlisted 5 candidates to race the CBR150R motorcycle. Honda’s long-term goal is to train young Indian racers who can showcase their talents on multiple National and International Platforms.
These include events such as the Asia Talent Cup, the Asia Road Racing Championship, and several Endurance championships. In 2021, HMSI began the first phase 1 of the event, where 8 candidates underwent 3 levels of rigorous testing. The first test included a gruelling physical fitness session, followed by testing the young riders riding skills and manoeuvrability on the racetrack. The final step involved a one-on-one interview with the candidates and their parents/guardians to understand their passion for motorsport.
History of the event
Honda 2Wheelers first launched the IDEMITSU Honda India Talent Hunt back in 2018 to find the Iconic Indian Rider. The one-of-a-kind initiative provides upcoming young talented racers with a platform to showcase their skills and build their potential. The program has been a major success for the brand as they selected Kavin Quintal from Chennai in 2018. With 3 years of experience under his belt, Kavin is all set to represent India on an international global platform. The final shortlisted riders will get the opportunity to race in the 2022 IDEMITSU Honda India Talent Cup. These aspiring racers will compete with one another in the CBR 150R category.
