Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) has announced a recall for its flagship touring motorcycle, the Gold Wing Tour, due to a faulty fastening bolt in the primary drive gear. The recall affects models manufactured between March 2018 and May 2021.
Gold Wing Tour Issue Details
The faulty fastening bolt could potentially break, leading to engine stalling issues. This defect poses a significant safety risk, as it could cause the engine to stop unexpectedly while riding. To address this issue, Honda has initiated a voluntary recall and will replace the faulty bolt free of charge, regardless of the motorcycle’s warranty status.
Replacement Process
Honda will begin the replacement process in the third week of December 2024 at its BigWing dealerships across India. The company will contact affected customers via calls, emails, and SMS to schedule the replacement. Owners can also proactively check if their motorcycle is part of the recall by entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the Honda BigWing website.
Customer Advisory
Honda advises Gold Wing Tour owners to take advantage of this recall to ensure their motorcycle’s safety. The replacement will be carried out by certified technicians, ensuring a seamless and efficient process.
Gold Wing Previous Recall Incidents
This is not the first time the motorcyle has been recalled in India. In a previous incident, Honda had to recall the Gold Wing GL1800 due to a similar issue with the primary drive gear fastening bolt. The company took proactive measures to address the problem and ensure customer safety.
Model Specifications
The Honda Gold Wing Tour is powered by an 1833 cc engine that produces 125 bhp and 170 Nm of torque with the help of a 7-speed automatic gearbox. Priced at INR 39.98 lakh (ex-showroom), the Gold Wing Tour is equipped with various premium features, including a music system, making it one of the most well-equipped touring motorcycles in the market.
