Honda Cars India has announced plans to launch 3 new nameplates in India by 2027. One of the three could be an Elevate-based electric SUV. It is estimated that this EV will be launched by 2026. This would mark Honda’s first fully electric vehicle for the Indian market and is part of the company’s broader strategy to embrace electrification.
The upcoming electric SUV, part of Honda’s Asian Compact Electric (ACE) project, will be built on the Elevate platform. It will feature a different nameplate and design, catering to the growing demand for eco-friendly vehicles.
Key Features and Expectations
Honda aims to offer a range of around 400 km on a single charge. The SUV will likely come with advanced features such as a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Honda Sensing ADAS suite, wireless charging, and sustainable interior trims.
Market Impact and Export Plans
The electric SUV will be manufactured at Honda’s Tapukara plant in Rajasthan, with a significant portion of the production earmarked for export to markets like Japan. This move aligns with Honda’s goal to position India as a key export hub for its global operations.
Competitive Edge
With rivals like Tata Motors, Mahindra and MG already in the electric SUV space, Honda’s entry is expected to intensify competition. The Elevate-based EV will compete with models like the Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, Mahindra BE 6e, and the upcoming Creta EV.
Honda’s EVs in International Markets
Honda has been expanding its electric vehicle lineup globally. In 2022, the company announced plans to launch 30 EV models worldwide by 2030, with production volumes exceeding 2 million units annually. Honda’s EVs are already available in markets like North America, China, and Japan, with models like the Honda Fit EV and Clarity Electric. The upcoming Elevate-based SUV will further strengthen Honda’s presence in the global EV market.
