2020 Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports deliveries start in India

Honda today announced that the company has commenced deliveries of the 2020 new Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports motorcycle in India and the first bike was delivered through the brand’s exclusive big-bike dealership, the Honda BigWing in Gurugram, Haryana. 

The 2020 Honda Africa Twin is the brand’s first BS6 compliant motorcycle big bike in India that was launched in March well before the BS6 deadline. The 2020 Africa Twin also comes with an updated and larger displacement engine with a DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission) gearbox as well as a new manual transmission launched for the first time in the Indian market since the bike’s introduction in 2017. 

The new 2020 Africa Twin is powered by a 1084cc parallel-twin, liquid-cooled 4-stroke engine that produces 98.2 Hp of power and 103.3 Nm of torque which claims to have 12% more peak power and 11% more torque as compared to the outgoing motor which is powered by a smaller 999cc parallel-twin liquid-cooled engine that produces 87.7 hp of power and 93.1 Nm of torque.

The new Africa Twin features a redesigned frame with an aluminium bolt-on subframe and an aluminium swingarm developed using the brand’s experience in the coveted Dakar Rally and the technology used on the CRF450 Moto-Crosser. New features include dual-LED headlamp units with three-stage cornering lights, a 5-stage height-adjustable windscreen, heated handgrips, a larger capacity (24.8-litres) fuel tank and tubeless tyres. 

The 2020 Africa Twin also gets a new six-axis Inertial Measuring Unit, throttle by wire technology with 7 selectable torque-control levels, wheelie control, cornering ABS with off-road settings, cornering detection on the DCT variant which detects and selects the appropriate gearing and rear lift control. It also features a new 6.5-inch full-colour TFT touchscreen multi-information display with Apple CarPlay integration and Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control and 3 built-in riding modes namely Urban, Tourer, Gravel and two user-customizable modes. The touch screen unit is also optimised to support touch sensitivity while wearing gloves. 

The Honda Africa Twin Adventure Sports was launched at the starting price of INR 15.35 lakh ex-showroom, India. The new Africa twin is offered in Darkness Black Metallic and Pearl Glare White paint themes.
