Honda Civic leads executive sedan segment in India

The Honda Civic took a long sabbatical from the Indian market in this decade, but it is now back with a bang. The Civic sedan has now taken the top spot in the executive sedan segment. The Honda Civic sedan has managed sales of over 4375 units till October 2019. The Japanese car manufacturer sold 336 units in September 2019 and 436 units in October 2019 which accounts for 30% month-on-month growth. The Civic has hence managed to grab a market share of 53% in October 2019.

Honda claims that the Civic has overall expanded the sales size of the executive sedan segment by 9.5% in the tenure April-October 2019. Sales have grown from 4350 units to 4763 units in the same period in this executive segment which includes other cars such as Hyundai Elantra, Toyota Corolla Altis and Skoda Octavia.

The Honda Civic in India is powered by a 1.8L petrol motor producing 141 PS & 174 Nm and a 1.6L diesel motor producing 120 PS and 300 Nm. The petrol engine comes matched only to a CVT automatic transmission while the diesel engine comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox only. Mileage claim is 16.5 kmpl for petrol and 26.8 kmpl for diesel variants.

The Honda Civic has received a safety rating of 5-stars from ASEAN NCAP crash tests and comes with features like 6 airbags, ABS, EBD, BA, stability control, hill start assist, lane watch system and ISOFIX.
