Honda City Hybrid prices reduced, a better choice to buy?
While the sedan segment in India keeps on shrinking day by day due to low sales, brands like Honda are still betting on their proven and renowned products like the City sedan.
While the regular City variants are doing modest at best, the City Hybrid, which is the only hybrid sedan in India at this price point, is struggling with slim to no buyers.
Speaking of the new price cut, which is recorded nearly Rs 1 lakh, the City Hybrid is now priced at Rs 19.90 lakh (ex-showroom). This makes it a lucrative choice among competitors like Volkswagen Virtus, which is doing very good due to its turbo-engine and drivability.
The City Hybrid, on the other hand, is best-suited for chauffeur-driven customers, and buyers who love fuel economy and sedate driving. While its 1.5-litre engine produces 126 bhp and 253 Nm of power and torque, it is the 27.26 km/l fuel economy figure which makes it stand out from the rivals.
Our verdict
The hybrid vehicle segment in India, especially the mass market cars, has seen a steep increase in demand. However, buyers are preferring hybrid SUVs like Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder due to their more practical nature. The City Hybrid, on the other hand, is designed for comfort and economy, rather than rugged use.
