In October 2014, the recently launched Maruti Suzuki Ciaz outnumbered the segment leader Honda City. In November however, the Honda City has dominated its way back to become the segment leader.
Honda sold 7,252 units of the City while the Maruti Ciaz saw a drop in demand at only 5,232 units.
The reason for Honda delivering a higher number is also due to the addition of a second shift at the Tapukara facility, and has effectively reduced the waiting periods as well.
Things are getting tough for the Ciaz already, with the car being recalled already to replace a faulty clutch. Prospective buyers will surely make note of this while making a purchase decision. Also, Maruti being Maruti, and denying things as always, are calling this ‘recall’ as a ‘service campaign’.
The next couple of months will give us a clearer example of which sedan dominates the C2 sedan segment. The Hyundai Verna facelift will also spice things up when launched in early 2015.
