Honda CB500F has arrived in India, but not launched

Written by Kanad Kalasur

Honda has brought in its mid-size bike, the CB500F in India to gauge customer response. The same was spotted at the Bangalore BigWing Dealership.

Such a practice has been pretty rare in India, and Honda hasn’t done such an activity for any previous bike launches in India. The showroom staff has been asking potential buyers for the bike to drop in and have a look at the motorcycle. It is possible that the Japanese bike maker might be looking to launch the bike in India.

The Honda CB500F is considered by many as the logical upgrade when moving from say , the first bike that a motorcyclist might own. It’s nothing fancy yet this beginner-focused bike is pretty popular in the US and European markets. In fact, many people consider this bike lacking in the styling and performance departments.

The bike gets styling similar to other F-family bikes. Its a sober design with a neutral inoffensive design. The Honda CB500F gets sharper styling elements  like the fuel tank, tank shrouds, rear stepped seat, rear grab rail, meaty exhaust, and twin exhaust headers.

Honda CB500F engine and transmission

The Honda CB500F is powered by a 471 cc parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine. It generates 47 BHP @ 8,600 rpm and 43 Nm of peak torque @ 6,500 rpm. Transmission duties are handled by a six-speed gearbox with sports slip and assist. It also gets 41mm Showa Separate Function Fork Big Piston Upside down forks, a mono rear shock absorber, twin discs at the front and a single disc at the back.

Price and Launch in India

The CB500F is based on the CB500X. This sports tourer was on sale a while back in India, but soon was taken off the shelves due to poor response by customers. Considering the same, Honda might be playing cautious in launching the bike.
