Hero-Zero Electric Motorcycles – what to expect?
In a recently published report online, Hero MotoCorp and Zero Motorcycles are working on multiple electric motorcycles. These new e-bikes are supposedly going to take on the 500-600cc ICE motorcycles in India as well as in the global markets. Moreover, the newly formed joint venture is also developing premium EVs that will debut by 2026 in the concept form.
Not long ago, Mr Niranjan Gupta, CEO of Hero MotoCorp, stated that the company plans to debut premium EVs by 2026. However, the joint venture is now developing two motorcycle models that are expected to meet a monthly production demand of 300-500 units. Additionally, these bikes will be mid-range premium offerings; competing with rival brands such as Ultraviolette.
The current EV market in India is being majorly led by two-wheeler manufacturers. The affordability and multiple options are the two main reasons behind the growth of this segment. Meanwhile, the new JV between Hero and Zero is going to focus on a new niche i.e. the mid-range and semi-premium EVs that offer fun factor along with the latest technology.

Our verdict
The consistently growing demand for EVs is creating new segments in the two-wheeler market. The collaboration between Hero and Zero is to cater the niche buyers while other rivals focus on more affordable EVs. To cover the affordable EV segment, Hero is developing an electric Splendor that is expected to launch soon in India.
