Hero has recently launched the updated Xtreme 160R 4V in India. Now, it looks like the Indian bike maker is already working on another project. This time, it appears that Hero is working on a new maxi-scooter. The leaked design reveals a scooter that is unlike any on sale today in India.

Hero MotoCorp maxi-scooter : More Details

It appears that the product is still in its early forms of development. That said, Hero could be onto something new here. The overall design of the maxi-scooter can be said to be sporty. There is a sharply raked seat, large wheels and other bits which lend it a sporty appeal.

While there is no word out yet on this maxi-scooter, Hero could possibly have a high capacity engine on this one. It could be more than 150cc to offer a unique product in the Indian scooter market.

The maxi-scooter rides on telescopic front suspension and rear twin shock absorbers. It could come with disc brakes on both ends. The rear gets a mount for a top box as well.

Popularity of maxi-scooters

While not very popular in India, due a lack of options as well, such maxi-scooters are a hit in South East Asia. Hence, Hero might be trying to launch a new scooter segment here in India.

Typically, maxi-scooters are more powerful than regular scooters, have a larger, more comfortable seating and in general offer better ride quality. They also come with a large amount of storage. Typically, maxi-scooters are a good alternative to those who want to commute medium distances on two wheels.

Nowadays, many maxi-scooters have a fixed engine – which allows better handling and accommodates larger wheel sizes. Further, these scooters have automatic transmission making it easy to ride as well.
