Hero Leap hybrid scooter coming in 2015

First revealed at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo, Hero MotoCorp will launch the Leap hybrid scooter in 2015. Not just in India, the manufacturer has shown interest in selling their first ever hybrid product in international markets as well.

Powering the Leap is a 124cc, hybrid petrol motor combined with an 8 kW electric motor backed by lithium-ion batteries. The PMAC(Permanent magnet AC) traction motor delivers max torque of 60+ Nm from standstill. The scooter is belt driven and Hero claims that the belt will last through the scooters lifetime.

The Leap will be manufactured at Hero’s Gurgaon facility and the company isn’t looking at high volumes initially.

Going by the features and technology on offer, expect premium pricing for the hybrid Leap when launched in India.
