Great Wall Motors planning Haval Dargo SUV for India?

Written by Nizam Shaikh

Great Wall Motors has filed trademarks for the “Dargo” moniker at the Indian intellectual property office. The “Dargo” SUV is likely to retail under the Haval brand from the Chinese manufacturer which is particularly famous for SUVs. This also indicates that the brand could be planning to make its debut in the Indian market soon. In 2020, the Chinese car manufacturer showcased its products at the Auto Expo 2020 in Delhi. The company also signed a memorandum of understanding with the Government of Maharashtra. This involved the investment of USD 1 Million and the acquisition of the General Motors now-defunct plant near Pune.

However, due to Cross-Border tensions between India and China, the negotiations broke down and the company did not land its products on Indian soil.  But now, the Great Wall Motors (GWM) could be taking a new approach to entering the Indian market. The brand is likely to use the top-down approach importing its products via the Completely Built-Up (CBU) and Completely Knocked Down (CKD) routes.
