Goodbye BMW i3 electric hatch

BMW is planning to discontinue the BMW i3 electric hatchback in the international market. The German premium car manufacturer previewed the i3 in the concept form back in 2011. The electric car was introduced in the European market in 2013 and became the brand’s first all-electric hatch. Now, reports suggest that BMW will be bidding adieu to the i3 in July 2022. Reports suggest that the last unit to roll out of the BMW’s production line in Leipzig, Germany. In addition to this, sources also report that BMW will also reorganise the manufacturing facility. This is in preparation for the start of production of the upcoming third-generation Mini Countryman. The car is likely to go into production during the second half of 2022.

BMW i3 – Highlights

The BMW i3 comes with a rear-hinged rear door. The five-door hatch comes with sport steering with a correspondingly adapted steering torque and the sport suspension. The i3 also comes with Automatic Stability Control (ASC), optimized Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) is even available in turns and up to a speed of 100 km/h.

BMW i3 – Powertrain

The BMW i3 comes with a 184 Hp electric motor that is capable of generating 270 Nm of torque. The i3 is capable of a top speed of 160 kmph. The car also comes with an acceleration of 0-100 kmph in just 6.9 seconds. The charging time of 9.7 hours on a 16A charger. The car also comes with a 42.2 kWh lithium-ion battery. The battery offers an electric range of 325 km on a single charge.

The BMW i3 also comes with 20-inch alloy wheels shod in 175/55 tyres. At a quick charging station, the BMW i3 charges to 80% in just 45 minutes.  BMW also claims that the i3 is made using materials using renewable resources. The BMW i3 is manufactured with 100% energy from renewable sources.

Sources also reveal that BMW will have more than 6 BEV models by the end of this year.
