Genesis, Hyundai’s luxury arm, has taken the automotive world by storm with the unveiling of two stunning concept cars—the X Gran Coupe and X Gran Convertible—at the 2025 Seoul Mobility Show. These models, based on the flagship Genesis G90 sedan platform, represent the brand’s vision for sustainable luxury and high-performance design.
What are the new Genesis concepts all about?
The X Gran Coupe reimagines the luxury four-door coupe with a focus on elegance and athletic proportions. It features an elongated hood, wide front intakes, and Genesis’ signature Two-Line headlights that extend into the fenders, visually widening the stance. The frameless doors and flush glass areas add a sleek, modern touch, while the widened fenders emphasize the car’s assertive presence.
The X Gran Convertible takes a more expressive route, offering an open-roof interpretation of the G90. Its design cues aim to connect drivers with their environment, with a beltline that stretches rearward to define the transition between body and roof. The lowered roofline and raked windshield contribute to a sportier silhouette, making it a standout in the luxury convertible segment.
Interior design concept
Both concepts share design hallmarks, including aerodynamic wing sections and detailed lower body treatments that enhance their dynamic stance. The interiors are equally impressive, with the X Gran Coupe drawing inspiration from Mediterranean olive trees. It features olive wood veneers, olive leaf-inspired ambient lighting, and naturally tanned leather derived from Italian olive oil production wastewater. The X Gran Convertible, on the other hand, takes inspiration from fine wines, with a rich color palette and luxurious materials that evoke a sense of sophistication.
Underpinning of the Genesis G90
Under the hood, the concepts are powered by a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine with mild-hybrid technology, delivering 415 hp. While earlier reports suggested an all-electric powertrain, Genesis has opted for a hybrid setup to balance performance and sustainability.
