Ford reveals Ranger Raptor with V6 engine

Ford has officially unveiled the all-new Ranger Raptor performance pickup truck. There are some significant changes that make the new Raptor even more desirable. In terms of mechanical upgrades, Ford is using a V6 turbo petrol engine, which replaces the turbo diesel unit used in the previous generation model. On the exterior, one can easily see the design changes matching that of the F-150 Raptor sold in the US market.

What Are The Changes In The 2022 Model?

As mentioned, the essential addition is the new, more powerful V6 petrol motor. It is a 3.0-litre twin-turbo unit that makes 288hp and 489Nm. There are plans that Ford will continue with the 2.0-litre diesel engine for some overseas markets. Ford has not revealed the performance figure as of yet. But, this new V6 petrol motor would easily annihilate the 2.0-litre diesel.

Another key addition is the ‘race-bred’ anti-lag system. With this, the turbos of the engine keep spinning for three seconds. This allows the driver to extract more power and thus making the engine even more responsive. Moreover, Ford also mentioned that the noise from the turbo makes the driving experience even more pleasurable. This system is already in use for Ford GT and Ford Focus ST. Aesthetically, the new Raptor gets a new grille that matches perfectly with the flared wheel arches and 17-inch alloy wheels. On the side, we get to see a jet fighter inspired setup, with orange trim accents and stitching.

Mechanical Upgrades

As evident from the previous generations, the new Ranger Raptor also gets an array of modifications. The chassis is stiffer, thus making it even more desirable for off-road conditions. The suspension gets a lower-friction 2.5-inch live-valve Fox dampers and a 2.3mm-thick steel bash plate. When compared to the standard Ranger, this is twice as large. For the off-roading enthusiasts, Raptor also gets a new electronically controlled two-speed transfer case. On top of this, the driver will also get the aid of a locking differential at the front and rear and a total of seven driving modes.
