According to sources, Ford India has issued a Field Service Action / Recall Program for the Ecosport, Figo, Aspire and Freestyle models. The recall pertains to Ford’s 1.5-litre diesel engine, which all these models have in common. The petrol models remain unaffected. Ford is recalling these vehicles due to multiple areas of concern. These concerns are related to the oil life and emissions of the vehicles. The brand is recalling vehicles that are manufactured between August 2019 and August 2021.
As of now, there is no number on how many vehicles are affected by this recall. Owners of the mentioned vehicles can head over to Ford India’s official website and check if their vehicle is a part of the recall by entering the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of their vehicle.
As mentioned, Ford is recalling diesel variants of multiple models manufactured between August 2019 and August 2021. The recall is because of oil life-related and emission issues. Sources suggest that service centres will replace the catalytic converter and O2 sensor. In addition to this, the brand will also update cars to the latest PCM firmware. These, in turn, will solve issues related to oil life.
One of Ford’s most popular models in India was the Ecosport. Ford recently rolled out the last unit of Ecosport from its Chennai manufacturing plant. Ford closed up shop last year, and the particular unit was for the export market. The sudden exit from the Indian market was a surprise for the automobile fraternity.
Soon after this announcement, Ford stopped producing cars at its Sanand manufacturing plant. Ford decided to manufacture EVs at the Sanand plant as a part of the PLI scheme. But soon after, the brand cancelled the plan. Not long after, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility & Ford India Private Limited signed an MoU to acquire the Sanand plant.
Post-acquisition, Tata plans on manufacturing PV/EVs at the Sanand plant. It is adjacent to the brand’s existing facility in Sanand, further helping the transition. With the planned investments, the plant will have an annual capacity of 300,000 units. Furthermore, Tata will also be able to scale it to 400,000 units annually.
