Fiat is bringing back the Topolino brand. The new Topolino is an electric quadricycle that is based on the Citroen Ami. The Topolino also talks about the Italian carmaker’s heritage as well as a significant milestone in the company’s push towards electrification.
Fiat Topolino : More Details
The Topolino was available on sale from 1936 to 1955. The new Topolino is the carmaker’s second electric vehicle after the Fiat 500e. Both these EVs have been designed to match the coolness of their namesake cars of the yesteryears.
The new Topolono is finished in a teal shade. This was the same colour on the debut 500 back in 1957. Fiat has equipped the Topolino with a retractable sunroof made with brown textile, cream-coloured leather upholstery and an open-side design.
Another aspect of the design is the fact that Fiat wants to make young people fall in love with cars again. To this end, the Topolino is a sustainable vehicle with the principles of joy, optimism and fun.
Fiat is also aiming to promote electric vehicles and hopes that the Topolino will be an ideal city-use vehicle and increase its popularity amongst the younger generation.
Powertrain of the Fiat Topolino
The drivetrain of the Topolino is shared with the Citroen Ami. This means, the Topolino gets a top speed of 45 km/h and a maximum range of 74 km.
Future is electrified at Fiat
By 2027, Fiat is targeting an all-electric vehicle line-up. The carmaker is first transitioning to EVs in the European market followed by others. For a start, Fiat will launch an electrified version of its existing vehicle portfolio before switching to an all-electric portfolio. Fiat CEO Olivier François wants to see Fiat as a people’s Tesla.
In India, the Fiat brand is no longer on sale. The carmaker’s parent FCA, is however selling the Jeep branded vehicles and using India as a production hub for RHD vehicles.
