FedEx has deployed the new Tata Ace EV in India. The electric goods carrier will assist the largest express transportation company in the world for last mile deliveries in India.
Tata Ace EV deployment in India
A fleet of 30 Tata Ace EVs have been put to use in Delhi. These are part of FedEx’s goal of achieving carbon-neutral operations by 2040.
Electric vehicles will provide advanced, clean and smart solutions for cargo mobility. The will also help in the efficient and time-bound last mile delivery. Electric offerings like Tata Ace will also help companies with their climate conscientious customers to help achieve carbon neutrality.
FedEx has also done research prior to deploying these Ace EVs. According to this research, 9 out of 10 customers expect businesses to deliver in a sustainable manner. Hence the usage of electric vehicles will help logistic companies and others to not just deliver goods, but also in a sustainable manner.
FedEx’s 2040 goal for zero emission delivery fleet
The logistics company has set an ambitious goal of replacing its entire pickup and delivery fleet to zero emission electric vehicles by 2040. Another milestone the company is working on is conversion of 50 percent of this fleet to EV by 2025, and increasing it to 100 percent by 2030.
To help towards this, FedEx undertook EV trials in India to test different technologies as well as understand the vehicle’s operational limitations on current routes. Thanks to these trails, it is said that the fleet of EVs would save up to 1.3 tons of carbon emissions annually.
Back in 1994, FedEx first used an electric vehicle in their operations. An acid battery based vehicle was used in California. In 2003, FedEx became the first delivery company in the world to use hybrid vehicles for pick up and drop.
