Mercedes-Benz E-Class and C-Class recall details

As per the luxury car maker Mercedes, its E-Class and C-Class models have a slight issue with the ECU that can lead to the malfunctioning of the ‘Sailing Mode’ feature. This feature basically allows the car to glide once the driver lifts off their feet from the accelerator. The ‘Sailing Mode’ feature improves the fuel economy of the vehicle.

As per the official document submitted to SIAM by Mercedes-Benz India, this potential issue arises due to the ECU potentially deactivating the fuel injection system that helps during the ‘Sailing Mode’ to keep the vehicle in control. The bug in the ECU can lead to the malfunction of the injection system which can further lead to involuntary loss of control of the vehicle, leading to an accident.

According to the official data supplied by Mercedes-Benz India, a total of 2,543 units of the E-Class sedan manufactured between April 29, 2022, to August 20, 2024, are affected by this potential issue. However, only a handful of 3 units of the C-Class sedan manufactured between August 31, 2021, to October 31, 2021, are affected by this potential malfunctioning.

Additionally, the other Mercedes-Benz cars including the GLC, G-Class, S-Class, AMG GT, and AMG E63 are also affected by a faulty fuel delivery module. Mercedes-Benz has also issued a separate recall for these models. It is interesting to note that the collective recall stands only for the petrol models and not for the diesel powertrain.
