eZee swappable battery for auto-rickshaws revealed

Written by Nizam Shaikh

High-performance clean mobility and mobility products provider Power Global has announced the introduction of its first product, eZee, in India. eZee is a mass-market swappable battery for light mobility vehicles. According to Power Global, the three-wheeled vehicles represent a total addressable market of USD 16 Billion but rely on internal combustion engines (ICE) and lead-acid batteries. With its eZee brand, Power Global is offering auto-rickshaw drivers a simple, low-cost way towards EV adoption.

Battery Manufacturing in India

In the recent past, Power Global announced that the brand is expediting setting up manufacturing and engineering in India. The brand was keen on producing actively cooled Li-Ion battery modules in India. The battery packs are specifically engineered for the 3-wheelers, which is a go-to last-mile delivery and last-mile travel segment, especially in India. As the upfront cost of buying an EV is high, Power Global offers an affordable energy-as-a-service membership program.

Pre-Orders For Customers in Noida

Under the subscription service, drivers will receive a swappable eZee battery module. The battery module comes with Power Global’s zero-maintenance lifetime service guarantee. Drivers can charge the battery at home or swap the module at Power Global’s battery swapping kiosks. The swap for a fully charged battery requires less than a minute. The brand has announced that the battery is currently available for pre-order. The initial distribution will begin from Greater Noida, which is the outskirts of New Delhi.

India as a Manufacturing Hub

Power Global has also announced that the company’s first facilities will include a battery production plant. The facility will be located on the site of a former Honda facility in Greater Noida, India. Power Global also has an R&D lab and battery manufacturing facility in Pasadena, California. With India as the battery manufacturing hub, Power Global will also serve neighbouring markets. These include Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Egypt, and Nigeria, as well as other locations in Southeast Asia and Africa.
