Pune-headquartered EV manufacturing & technology company EKA announces partnership with NuPort Robotics to introduce Smart Electric Buses with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). The partnership will enable safer, greener and more efficient transportation on Indian roads.

NuPort Robotics’ partnership with EKA is strategic, as it allows both to offer Indian customers cutting-edge innovative vehicles that both can continuously update to retain that innovative advantage.

EK and NuPort Robotics – Partnership Details

The Canadian company applies its proprietary autonomous driving technology to automate transportation for supply chains. With the partnership, EKA also leads the way in introducing Level 2 autonomy and autonomous driver assistance systems to their electric buses. The initiative is first-of-its-kind in the country towards incorporating progressive Level 2 autonomy and Artificial Intelligence (AI) for electric buses in India.

EKA, with NuPort, begins testing on a range of autonomous features. The technology promises to bring notable improvements to safety, reduce environmental impact and also increase operational efficiency. After a lot of rigorous testing, the technology will be deployed by over 5000 buses. This represents a minimum budget of INR 150 crores in innovation and the future of sustainable transportation. Additionally, the company claims that the use of this technology in commercial vehicles has been associated with reducing crash rates by almost 50 per cent.

NuPort Robotics – Indian Operations

The Canadian company announced its plan to set up operations in the country last month. The company will fully develop and deploy its technology for commercial vehicles. In the beginning, the company will start with electric vehicle manufacturers such as EKA. NuPort will follow a “Made in India” approach, thus contributing to the advancement of economic development.

NuPort’s technology provides Level 2 autonomy features specifically targeted for Indian roads. The technology takes into account the complex nature of Indian traffic and understanding the Indian driving mindset.
