EKA, a subsidiary of Pinnacle Industries, has announced that they have received the CMVR certification for the 2.5 ton electric pickup truck. The certification was given by the Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT). The certificate was was handed over to the company’s research, design, and homologation team, at the hands of Mr. K.V.R.K. Prasad, Director CIRT.

About the all-electric EKA Pickup truck

EKA is now the first mover to get the electric truck to the Indian market in the 2.5 ton gross vehicle weight (GVW) segment. The company has completed all the mandatory functional and safety testing and approvals to achieve this Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR) certification. Thanks to this certification, they will now be able to start the road trials of the electric LCV on Indian roads. As per the plans, the production of this vehicle is expected to commence in Pune later this month. Deliveries have been planned for early next year.

e-LCV segment potential in India

Thanks to lower total cost of ownership, unrivalled design and user experience, the company is confident that this product will be a segment leader in the last-mile delivery category. Further, the company hopes that they will be able to help the country in faster adoption of zero-emission vehicles.

LCV segment vehicles are the unsung heroes of the last mile delivery networks. They deliver in areas where larger trucks don’t go, yet make frequent stops to drop off their cargo at multiple drop off locations. They at times also get stuck in city traffic. Hence an electric vehicle is a very good option to conventional ICE powered vehicles especially in this segment. According to research, this segment is likely to reach close to 100,000 numbers over the next five years.
