EIM electric truck: What is it?
As seen in the spy shots, the test unit is a production-ready mule with a beautiful shade of blue. It has a massive EIM badge on the front, while it gets a tri-horizontal front grille and LED headlamps.
Moreover, on the inside, it is equipped with car-like modern features, including the two-tone cabin theme, leather seats, a steering wheel with mounted buttons, AC, an integrated music system, 4X4 modes, and more. The cabin design has been tilted towards the driver for ease of driving.
Meanwhile, powering the upcoming unnamed truck is a massive 282 kWh LFP battery pack, which is a single unit and is swappable as well. This battery pack can be swapped with a fully charged one at an automated battery swapping station, which are being set up by EIM.
Mind you, EIM is a Mumbai-based manufacturer that has an agreement with China’s Foton Motor Private Ltd. to market, sell, and assemble the electric truck models in India.
Interestingly, in one of the spy shots, an unidentified mysterious test car is also seen, which looks like something belonging to the mid-size SUV segment, including the Hyundai Creta and Maruti Grand Vitara.
Our verdict
While the electrification of passenger vehicles is rapidly growing, the commercial vehicle segment is yet to witness the EVs that can potentially change the transport industry forever. The main issue with the commercial EVs is the limited range and high charging time, which makes the transport business slow and unprofitable.
