Eicher Skyline Pro 6016 Heavy-Duty bus with 5.1L Volvo engine launched in India

Eicher Truck and Buses has launched the heavy-duty Eicher Skyline Pro 6016 with a with Volvo’s 5.1L VEDX5 engine. The bus was recently introduced as a mobile COVID ICU unit, fabricated by the Grace Cancer Foundation, Hyderabad. The Skyline Pro 6016 is the first Eicher HD Bus with the Swedish brand’s powertrain under the VE Commercial Vehicles Limited (VECV), a joint venture between the Volvo Group and Eicher Motors Limited. 

The Eicher Skyline Pro 6016 is powered by BS6 emissions-compliant Volvo Group technology-based 5.1-litre diesel engine that produces 210 Hp of power and 825 Nm of torque and obtains BS6 conformity through a fuel-efficient Exhaust After-treatment system (EATS). The advanced engine also features Volvo Group’s EMS (Engine Management System), an intelligent engine protection system for longer engine life, intelligent driver information system (IDIS 2.0), fuel coaching and cruise control, that claims to improve driving comfort as well as fuel efficiency. 

The Eicher Skyline Pro 6016 comes with 16.2 Ton GVW, available in multiple long-wheelbase variants along with an optional lightweight HDPE (High-density Polyethylene) 425-litre fuel tank, durable high tensile strength DOMEX chassis along with safety features like engine exhaust brake and larger pneumatic brakes. 

To further improve its fuel efficiency the Skyline Pro 6016 is equipped with Mbooster+ technology that enables the driver to switch between Eco+, Eco & Power modes depending on road conditions and occupancy load. The Eicher Skyline Pro 6016 also features with a sandwich-type compact engine hood, a flat driver area, a bigger alternator and a larger clutch to maximise its on-road performance.

The Eicher Skyline Pro 6016 was recently deployed in a COVID-19 Mobile ICU avatar that was fabricated by the Grace Cancer Foundation, Hyderabad and offered mobile medical roles such as an ICU unit, Cancer screening, Mammography, X-ray and sample collection. The bus was also equipped with medical pieces of equipment such as ventilators, imaging, teleradiology, e-ICU, ultrasound and AI-based stratification.

Eicher currently produces fully built and bus chassis variants across light, medium and heavy-duty applications at their bus manufacturing facility in Baggad, Madhya Pradesh.
