Ducati has introduced its lightest V-Twin engine at the EICMA 2024. The new Ducati V2 Engine weighs in at just 54.4 kgs and now features variable valve timing. The latest evolution of the V2 engine blends both track performance as well as offers an enjoyable ride on roads. The new Ducati V2 engine will be equipped on the Ducati Panigale V2 as well as the Ducati Streetfighter V2.

Ducati V2 Engine

The innovative twin-cylinder engine comes with 890cc of displacement and complies with the latest Euro5+ emission norms, revealed Ducati. Compared to the previous Superquadro engine the new V2 is 9 kgs lighter. Also, to further put things into perspective the Testastretta Evoluzione engine is approximately 5.8 kgs heavier. Its is also lighter than the Desmodue which is equipped on the Ducati Scrambler. Thanks to its light weight, the new Ducati V2 engine offers higher performance and even makes the bike more agile. The engine produces 120 Hp of power @ 10,750 rpm and 93.3 Nm of torque @ 8,250 rpm.

Intake Variable Timing

The 90-degree V-Twin configuration is not only slender but also balances forces which means it doesn’t require a countershaft to eliminate vibrations. The engine also comes with IVT (Intake Variable Timing Control) system that has the capability to control the timing of the intake valve control across a 52-degree range, via a timing actuator on the end of the camshaft. Thanks to this, the V-Twin engine delivers a very linear torque right from low rpm and sporty performance in the high rpm band.

High Performance Parts

The chrome plated intake valves also have a hollow stem that help reduce the weight of the valve by 5% and it also features, intake valve finger followers with a DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) coating, like the MotoGP Desmosedici. Ducati has also equipped the engine with a racing lubrication system comprised of a main pump and a scavenge pump located in the con rod housing. This helps reduce the pressure in the con rod housing and in turn reduces the resistance of the moving parts.
