Ducati has officially entered the motocross segment with the launch of its first-ever off-road motorcycle, the Desmo450 MX. This marks a significant milestone for the Italian brand, which has long been synonymous with road and track performance. The Desmo450 MX is designed to bring Ducati’s racing DNA to the dirt, combining cutting-edge technology with robust engineering.
Desmo450 MX – powertrain and mechanics
At the heart of the Desmo450 MX is a 449.6 cc single-cylinder engine featuring Desmodromic valve timing—a first for the motocross segment. The engine delivers 63.5 hp at 9,400 rpm and 53.5 Nm of torque at 7,500 rpm, with a redline set at an impressive 11,900 rpm. This high-revving capability ensures smooth yet aggressive acceleration, making the bike quick on exits and easy to handle through corners.
The Desmo450 MX is built around a lightweight aluminium twin-spar frame, weighing just 8.96 kg. The frame’s design minimizes welds, improving rigidity and strength while contributing to the bike’s dry weight of 104.8 kg. Suspension components are provided by Showa, with a 49 mm upside-down fork offering 310 mm travel and a fully adjustable rear monoshock providing 301 mm travel.
Desmo450 MX – features
Ducati has equipped the Desmo450 MX with advanced electronics, setting a new benchmark for motocross bikes. The motorcycle features Ducati Traction Control (DTC), Launch Control, and Engine Brake Control, all adjustable through two Riding Modes and customizable via the X-Link App. A Quickshifter ensures seamless upshifts, giving riders a competitive edge on the dirt track.
Braking duties are handled by Brembo components, with Galfer discs measuring 260 mm at the front and 240 mm at the rear. The bike rides on 21-inch front and 19-inch rear wheels, wrapped in Pirelli Scorpion MX32 mid-soft tyres for optimal grip and performance.
