Written by Nizam Shaikh

Ducati has introduced the all-new DesertX, a modern classic adventure motorcycle, in Episode 6 of Ducati World Première 2022. The new Ducati DesertX was unveiled in the concept study form back in September 2021. The much-awaited adventure motorcycle draws its design inspiration from the Dakar motorcycles of the 80s and 90s. The bike also has a retro-technological and functional style theme based on Paris-Dakar enduro motorcycles. Ducati claims that DesertX features three fundamental principles – Exploration, Fun and Performance.

Ducati DesertX – Design Highlights

The Ducati DesertX comes with twin rounded headlamps and peripheral LED DRLs with a unique light signature. The motorcycle comes with a tall windscreen that reduces wind buffeting on the road and also other elements off-the-road. The DesertX also comes with a large 21-litre fuel tank for a more extended range which the bike can also combine with an 8-litre additional rear fuel tank for extending the range by more than 150 km. The Ducati DdesertX also comes with ergonomically designed seats on the front and rear and an upright handlebar for out-of-saddle riding. The Ducati DesertX also comes with a sleek taillamp with a horseshoe LED lamp and upswept high-mount exhaust.

Ducati DesertX – Features

The Ducati DesertX comes with features such as Full LED lighting with two bi-function poly ellipsoidal modules. The bike also features the Ducati Brake Light, which in case of sudden braking, automatically activates the flashing of the rear light to signal the condition of sudden slowing to following vehicles. The bike also comes with a high-resolution 5-inch colour TFT display placed vertically to offer the best view, even in a stand-up riding position.

The display offers Turn by Turn navigation and Ducati Multimedia System integration. Ducati also offers the DesertX with six riding modes. Ducati has specifically dedicated two of which for a better off-road riding experience. The bike also gets a host of riding assistance systems. These include Traction Control, Wheelie Control, Engine Brake Control, Cornering ABS, Quickshifter up & down and Cruise Control.

Ducati DesertX – Technical Specifications

Powering the Ducati DesertX is a 937cc Testastretta 11-degree L-twin cylinder engine. The liquid-cooled engine with a Desmodromic valvetrain produces 110 Hp pf power and 92 Nm of torque. Ducati claims that the engine on the DesertX is 1.7 kgs lighter in weight compared to the predecessor. The bike also comes with a very long maintenance interval. The oil change is every 15,000 km, and the valve clearance check is every 30,000 km.

The Ducati DesertX comes with a fully adjustable 46mm KYB front fork suspension and a fully adjustable monoshock on the rear. The brand offers 21-inch cross-spoke rims on the front and 18-inch cross-spoke rims on the rear. The bike comes with Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tyres. The Ducati DesertX boasts 230mm front and 220mm rear suspension travel, a generous 250mm of ground clearance and a commanding 875mm of seat height.

Ducati will soon announce the pricing of DesertX in the international market. The brand is also likely to bring the bike to India owing to the demand in the adventure motorcycling segment in our country.
