Design details of Maruti Suzuki’s Innova Hycross version leak before debut

Written by Kanad Kalasur

Maruti soon plans to introduce a 2nd vehicle in the MPV segment after the Ertiga. This is none other than the rebadged Innova Hycross. Under the Maruti-Toyota partnership, the automakers are working on technology sharing as well as launching name-badged vehicles.

Maruti’s version of the Innova Hycross

While both vehicles will essentially be the same, there will be some changes made by the Indian carmaker. These could include both exterior updates and interior changes. Now, one of these changes has leaked online. The front grill design of the car is now revealed.

According to the patent image, the grill is based on the current Nexa design. The trapezoidal grille gets a dual chrome bar. The Suzuki S logo sits in the middle. Apart from this, there is also some chrome on the bottom of the grille. Meanwhile, the mesh appears to get a glossy surface.

Close observers will notice that this grille is similar to the one on the Maruti Grand Vitara. Another version of this grille can be seen on the Fronx as well.

Could this be the new Maruti Suzuki Engage?

Further, media reports also suggest that Maruti is considering the name ‘Engage’ for this MPV. While there is no official word out yet, the report is based on the trademark filings by India’s largest carmaker.

This new MPV will share its powertrain with the Innova Hycross. Hence it will come with a 2.0-litre NA petrol with a hybrid system. The system output is claimed to be 183 BHP and 206 Nm. Transmission duties are handled by an eCVT.

The Hycross gets a host of features. These include the likes of a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment, a digital driver’s display, a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, and second-row powered Ottoman seats. In terms of safety, we get up to six airbags, front and rear parking sensors, TPMS, a 360-degree camera, and radar-based ADAS.
