Citroen C5 Aircross EV Spotted Testing – What to Expect?

Written by News Team

The Citroen C5 Aircross EV has been spotted undergoing testing in Southern Europe. The car has been spotted without camouflage and could be launched soon. This will will be Citroen’s flagship SUV in the EV space.

The Sightings and Speculations

The test mule, seen without any camouflage, closely resembles the existing plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version of the C5 Aircross. However, keen observers have noted several telltale signs that distinguish this prototype as an all-electric vehicle. Notably, the absence of exhaust pipes and the presence of a large battery pack protruding from the vehicle’s floor are clear indicators of its electric nature.

Technical Insights

The Citroen C5 Aircross EV is expected to be built on Stellantis’ STLA Medium platform, a versatile architecture designed to support a range of electric vehicles. This platform is capable of accommodating battery sizes between 87 kWh and 105 kWh, offering potential driving ranges of up to 700 kilometers (435 miles) on a single charge. The test vehicle is rumored to feature an 86 kWh battery pack with a 400V architecture, promising an estimated range of around 500 kilometers.

Design and Features

While the test mule retains the bodywork of the PHEV version, it is anticipated that the production model will introduce notable design changes. The EV-specific wheels and potentially lower ground clearance are among the expected modifications. Additionally, the new C5 Aircross EV might offer both front-wheel-drive (FWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD) configurations, catering to a broader range of consumer preferences.

Market Position and Future Prospects

The Citroen C5 Aircross EV is poised to compete in the increasingly crowded electric SUV market. With its advanced platform and promising range, it aims to attract environmentally conscious consumers seeking a blend of performance and practicality. The vehicle’s development aligns with Stellantis’ broader strategy to expand its electric vehicle portfolio, despite recent financial challenges. We could also see the C5 Aircross EV in India later next year.
