Citroen India gears up to unveil its latest offering, the Citroen Basalt, on August 2, 2024. The French automaker has been steadily releasing teasers, revealing a host of new features that promise to make the Basalt a formidable competitor in the compact SUV segment, particularly against the Tata Curvv.
A Glimpse into the Citroen Basalt
The Citroen Basalt is set to be the fifth model in Citroen’s India lineup, and it brings a fresh design language to the table. The SUV coupe boasts a sleek, coupe-like profile, a design element that sets it apart from its predecessors. The exterior teasers have showcased a split headlamp design, a chrome-finished grille, and funky alloy wheels with side cladding, all contributing to its modern and dynamic appearance.
Interior Innovations
Citroen has also teased several interior features that highlight the Basalt’s focus on comfort and technology. The SUV will come equipped with a 10.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, offering wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Additionally, the Basalt will feature a digital driver display, likely measuring around seven inches, similar to the one found in the C3 Aircross.
Other notable interior features include automatic climate control, cruise control, and keyless entry with push-button start. The Basalt is also expected to offer wireless phone charging, six airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors with a camera, electronic stability control, and hill start assist.
Power and Performance
Under the hood, the Citroen Basalt is expected to be powered by a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, delivering 110 PS. This engine will be paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, with an optional 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission available. Lower-spec variants might feature an 82 PS 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with a 5-speed manual transmission.
Competing with the Tata Curvv
The Citroen Basalt is poised to take on the Tata Curvv, another highly anticipated compact SUV that will be launched on Aug 7. The Tata Curvv has been making waves with its futuristic design and advanced features, setting a high bar for competitors. The Basalt’s blend of stylish design, advanced technology, and robust performance aims to position it as a strong contender in this competitive segment.
Market Positioning and Expectations
Citroen is expected to price the Basalt competitively, with a starting price around INR 10 lakh (ex-showroom). This pricing strategy, combined with its feature-rich offering, is likely to attract a wide range of customers looking for a stylish and technologically advanced compact SUV.
