Hyundai has revealed the IONIQ 5 N eN1 Cup race car will compete in a dedicated one-make eN1 race class. Hyundai announced that “If the IONIQ 5 N has nowhere to race, we will make a race series for it”. Furthermore, the One Make eN1 race class will be added to the Hyundai N Festival race season held in South Korea.
Why Electric Motor Racing?
The eN1 Cup will not only open up a new dimension in electric racing but also act as an exercise in development of advanced electric motorsports for Hyundai. In addition to this, Hyundai also revealed that IONIQ 5 N eN1 Cup car will be embarking on a new adventure leading it into an unknown chapter of electric motorsports. Also, there is no straight path for electrification and Hyundai plans to forge its electric vehicles into motorsport proven products, reveals the brand.
Hyundai IONIQ 5 N eN1 Race Car – Specifications
Powering the Hyundai IONIQ 5 N eN1 is a mass-produced 478 Kw/650 PS electric motor. The car will be based the E-GMP (Electric – Global Modular Platform) which also underpins the standard IONIQ 5. The brand also revealed that the IONIQ 5 N eN1 weighs around 1,970 kgs giving it a power-to-weight ratio of around 0.33 PS per kilogram. In addition to this, the car also gets an Air jack lift, N e-shift and N Grin Boost (NGB).
The race car also comes with 2 way adjustable damper with ride height and camber adjustment. Braking power comes from 6-piston front and 4-piston rear disc brakes. Also, the racing car gets 18-inch 11J forged wheels shod in Slick tyres. The IONIQ 5 eN1 also comes with a wide body kit and a large rear wing. Safety equipment includes a welded type multi point roll-cage, bucket seats, 6-point safety belt, high voltage shutoff device and a high voltage warning indicator.
