BMW has launched the new BMW 1-Series in the international market. The new BMW 1-Series with the mid-life refresh comes with new sleek headlamps and taillamps, a new 20-inch BMW curved display and is available in both petrol and diesel engine variants. The brand has also dropped the ‘I’ badging from the petrol variants and they are now simply “120” and M135 xDrive. Diesel variants are available in the 118d and 120d trims.
BMW 1-Series – Exteriors and Proportions
The BMW 1-Series now comes with a sharpened profile and a sportier stance. In the latest generation, the BMW 1-Series features a long bonnet and a passenger cell that is set well back. In addition to this, the 1-Series also gets a flowing roofline and a sportier rear end. The BMW 1-Series is now 4,361 mm long which is 42mm more than its predecessor. The height of the car is also 25mm more than before and the 1-Series now stands at 1459mm tall. The wheelbase of the car is 2,670 mm while the width is 1800mm.
The new BMW 1-Series comes with a flat front end with a wide, forward-leaning BMW radiator grille. The car also comes with vertical and diagonal bars on the grille. The brand offers the 1-Series with standard LED headlights and Adaptive LED headlights with matrix beam as an option. The BMW 1-Series also comes with a long roof spoiler and side air deflectors and a a black diffuser-style insert on the rear apron. The 1-Series is also available in two solid paintwork finishes and seven metallic finishes.
BMW 1-Series – Powertrain Details
Powering the BMW 1-Series is a BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology 1.5-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine that develops 170 Hp of power and 280 Nm of torque. The engine comes with a 7-speed steptronic transmission with dual clutch and a 48-volt mild hybrid technology with an electric motor integrated into the transmission.
Additionally the 1-Series in the M135 xDriv avatar features a 2.0-litre M TwinPower Turbo Technology 4-cylinder petrol engine developing 300 Hp of power and 400 Nm of torque. The engine also comes with a 7-speed Steptronic transmission with dual clutch.
The diesel engine variants feature a 2.0-litre BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology diesel engine developing 150 Hp of power and 360 Nm of torque on the 118d variant and the 120d variant comes with the same engine with 48-volt mild hybrid technology offering 163 Hp and 400 Nm of power and torque.
