Genesis has premiered its new concept car, X Speedium Coupe, at Genesis House in New York. The company says the new concept incorporates Genesis’ DNA while also looking ahead at the next wave of EVs and highlighting the brand’s future as a luxury EV manufacturer.

In a series of announcements focussing on EVs, Genesis also revealed plans for the upcoming electric version of the GV70 SUV’s production at its manufacturing facility in the USA. The brand also announced the GV60 Priority One program in the USA.

Genesis X Speedium Coupe – What is it?

The design of the new concept is an evolution of the X concept. The company says it was born out of a “freestyle” design exercise based on the last year’s X concept. The Genesis X Speedium Coupe features design language that also serves as a preview for the future electric cars from the Korean brand.

The inspiration for the name, Speedium, comes from a racetrack in Inje, Korea. Genesis says that the name encapsulates the company’s belief that the emotional value of driving will remain strong even when electric cars take over. The name of the colour, “Inje Green”, a metallic emerald green shade is inspired by the racetrack’s surrounding mountainous region.

Genesis X Speedium Coupe – Design

The Genesis X Speedium Coupe still gets the signature Two Line lighting units. The lights are now a full-width element and are part of the grille. They also serve as daytime running lights. Since it is an EV, it uses a fully enclosed version of the brand’s Crest grille.

The silhouette of the car gets a fastback-style roofline. It is a departure from the last year’s X Concept, which has a conventional coupe-style roofline. The vehicle also uses a double-bubble style glass roof. The other design highlights include new wheels with ventilated discs and neon-yellow-ish coloured callipers, a ducktail spoiler and a more aggressive rear bumper with a diffuser.
