CFMoto 800 MT revealed, based on the KTM 790 Adventure

Written by Nizam Shaikh

Its been a few years since KTM and CFMoto joined hands in the Chinese market. Under the new partnership, the China-based manufacturer produces KTM motorcycles at their production facility in the Orient, sthrenthning KTM’s appearance in the Chinese market as well as collectively developing and manufacturing products for the Chinese and the international market.

Now pictures of a production-ready CFMoto 800MT has emerged on the internet which is speculated to be based on the KTM 790 Adventure. The adventure class motorcycle was also spotted testing under full camouflage but recent pictures show its panel detailing, paint theme and graphics.

The new CFMoto 800MT Adventure Tourer feature the similar frame, engine and suspension borrowed from the KTM 790 Adventure but the swingarm, body design appears CFMoto. The major difference is between the two is the fuel tank of the motorcycle. While the 790 Adventure comes with a low-slung fuel tank which keeps the centre of gravity low and centred inspiring confidence on trails, the CFMoto 800MT has taken the more conventional route and features a more traditional fuel tank. This could also be a cost-cutting measure, but the tall mounted fuel tank is likely to make its presence felt during off-road adventures.

In terms of styling, the CFMoto 800MT features upright adventure styling with a wide headlamp unit, a tall visor, long-travel suspensions on both the ends, in-built auxiliary lamps, a sump guard, mid-set footpegs, upswept exhaust, a tail rack mount and pannier mounts. The CFMoto 800MT is expected to use the new-generation LC8c 799cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin cylinder engine with an 8-valve DOHC cylinder head capable of producing 95 Hp of power and 88 Nm of torque matched to a 6-speed transmission with mechanically operated slipper clutch.

The CFMoto product portfolio in the Indian market included the 300NK, 650NK, 650MT and 650GT. The brand has not yet upgraded the portfolio to BS6/Euro5 compliance in India. The chances of the 800MT coming to Indian are slim to none. In the international market, KTM has revealed the 2021 KTM 890 Adventure that comes with a more powerful Euro5 compliant engine, the KTM 890 Adventure could be launched in the Indian market in limited numbers.
