BYD has recently unveiled a facelift for its popular Seal EV, introducing a range of updates that enhance both its aesthetic appeal and technological capabilities. The facelifted model, now available in China, boasts subtle exterior changes, a revamped interior, and significant improvements in its charging system.
Subtle Yet Noteworthy Exterior Updates
The exterior of the BYD Seal EV has undergone minor but impactful changes. The most noticeable update is the introduction of a new light purple color option, which adds a fresh and modern look to the vehicle. Additionally, the facelift includes new alloy wheels and a red-finished BYD logo on the tailgate. One of the most significant exterior enhancements is the addition of a roof-mounted lidar sensor, which is designed to improve the vehicle’s adaptive cruise control and automated parking systems.
Revamped Interior for a Modern Feel
Inside, the BYD Seal EV has received more substantial updates. The new interior features a flat-bottom four-spoke steering wheel and a dual-tone tan (leatherette) and grey theme, giving the cabin a more luxurious feel. The dashboard has been redesigned with a minimalist approach, featuring a black finish. The central air conditioning vents have been relocated below the large infotainment screen, a change from their previous position on either side of the screen.
Faster Charging with Advanced Technology
One of the most significant upgrades in the facelifted BYD Seal EV is the transition from a 400V electrical system to an 800V architecture, known as e-Platform 3.0 Evo. This new system significantly reduces the charging time, cutting the 10-80% charge time from 37 minutes to just 25 minutes. This improvement suggests an increase in the peak charging rate from 150kW, although BYD has yet to confirm the new limit.
Battery Options and Range
For the Chinese market, the BYD Seal EV is available with two battery pack options: 61.44 kWh and 80.64 kWh, offering up to 700km of range on the CLTC cycle. In India, the model is available with 61.44 kWh and 82.56 kWh batteries, providing up to 650km of range on the NEDC cycle. The current model, which went on sale just five months ago, is priced between INR 41 lakh and INR 53 lakh. While the Seal EV has no direct rivals, it competes with models like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the Volvo XC40 Recharge in its price range.
