Chinese EV giant BYD has big plans for the Indian market. After making its mark with the EV6 and Atto 3. The company showcased the all-new Seal sedan for the first time in India at the Auto Expo 2023. The Seal is an electric sedan, which takes on the hugely popular Tesla Model 3 in international markets namely the US and China. BYD has now confirmed that Seal will make it to the Indian market with the launch planned in the fourth quarter of 2023. The deliveries too will commence around the same time.
BYD Seal Design Highlights
In terms of dimension, the Seal measures 4,800mm in length, 1875 mm in width and 1460 mm in height. In terms of the overall design, the Seal has visual cues from the Ocean X concept from 2021. Thus the sedan largely follows BYD’s “ocean aesthetics” design language.
The Seal also features radical details like four boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights, a coupe-like all-glass roof, flush-fitting door handles, a split headlamp design and a full-width LED light bar at the rear.
BYD Seal Key Features
Like the Atto 3 and e6, the BYD Seal too will get a rotating, 15.6-inch infotainment display in the centre console. Meanwhile, the driver will get a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a head-up display.
The centre console also houses basic controls for functions like a heated windscreen, volume control for the audio system as well as two wireless charging pads. There are also plenty of gloss black inserts with white contrasting dashboard trim and door handles integrated into speakers. Overall making the interior look quite striking and attractive as the Atto 3.
BYD Seal Promises Certified 700 Km Range
The Seal will use BYD’s Blade battery tech, which we will use in more EVs in India. The electric sedan uses BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 and comes with two battery packs, a 61.4kWh unit and an 82.5kWh unit. The former comes with a claimed range of 550 km, meanwhile, the latter has a range of up to 700 km.
Seal also gets a choice of single-motor and dual-motor powertrains. The single motor is available with both batteries. But the dual-motor powertrain can only be had with a larger battery only. In India, the Seal will get a dual-motor powertrain that gets an all-wheel drive setup. The front axle-mounted electric motor makes 218 HP. While the motor on the rear makes 312 HP. Combining both, they make 530hp and are capable of a claimed 0-100 kmph timing of 3.8 seconds.
BYD Seal: Booking And Launch Timeline
As mentioned the bookings for the BYD seal will start sometime around September 2023. This will be followed by a launch in October. We can expect BYD to price the electric sedan in the price range of around INR 70 lakh (ex-showroom).
