Chinese automaker BYD is gearing up to launch its latest electric vehicles (EVs) in India. The company has filed patents for two new models, the Bao 3 SUV and the Bao 9 sports car. This move comes as BYD aims to strengthen its presence in the Indian market, which has shown a growing interest in electric vehicles.
BYD Bao 3
The Bao 3 is an off-road electric SUV, based on the Super 3 concept car. It features a rugged design with reinforced bumpers, distinctive LED lighting, and thick body cladding. The SUV is equipped with dual electric motors, providing a combined output of 444 horsepower. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.9 seconds and has a top speed of 201 km/h. The Bao 3 also boasts BYD’s advanced Blade battery packs, known for their safety and longevity.
BYD Bao 9
On the other hand, the Bao 9 is a sleek, open-top sports car inspired by the Super 9 concept. Designed by Wolfgang Eggert, who has previously worked with top brands like Lamborghini and Audi, the Bao 9 features a curvy profile, scissor doors, and dual tail lights. The sports car is designed for two passengers and comes with carbon fibre seats and a racing-style steering wheel.
While BYD has filed patents for these models in India, the exact launch date is yet to be confirmed. The company is expected to showcase these vehicles at the upcoming Bharat Mobility Expo 2025. This event will provide a platform for BYD to reveal more details about the Bao 3 and Bao 9, as well as other upcoming models.
The Indian market has been receptive to BYD’s electric vehicles, with models like the Seal, Atto 3 and eMAX 7 receiving positive feedback. The launch of the Bao 3 and Bao 9 is expected to further boost BYD’s presence in the country, catering to both off-road enthusiasts and sports car lovers. The Bao 3 and Bao 9 promise to bring excitement and performance to the EV segment, making electric driving more accessible and enjoyable for Indian consumers.
