BSVI compliant Isuzu V-Cross with more power to launch soon

Written by Nizam Shaikh

In the wake of new safety and new BSVI emission compliance norms which will be required to be enforced by April 2020, motor car manufacturers are updating their engines to meet the new standards. Isuzu Motors, founded in the year 1916 in Japan is a world-leading motorcar manufacturer dominating the utility vehicles, commercial vehicles and diesel engine market.

Isuzu motors have been producing efficient diesel engines since 1936. Applying the technical experience acquired in over decades, Isuzu motors have achieved as a result of that a balance between power, fuel efficiency, reliability, low emissions and refinement in their engines.

A new updated BSVI compliant engine is in order for the Isuzu D-Max V-cross. The new engine will be an 1,898cc, four-cylinder, common rail, turbocharged, inter-cooled, diesel motor producing 160 HP of power @ 3600 RPM and 360 Nm torque @ 2600 RPM. It will be coupled to a new gearbox, an automatic 6-speed or a 6-speed manual. The current 2,499cc, four-cylinder, common rail, VGS turbocharged, inter-cooled diesel engine makes a max power of 134 HP @ 3600 RPM and 320 Nm of torque @ 2800 RPM. According to this data, the new engine produces 26 HP more power and 40 Nm more torque than the old 2.5-litre engine.

The engine comes with a shift-on-fly 4-wheel drive with high torque mode coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission. The brakes are ventilated type twin-pot caliper hydraulic discs on the front and drum type rear brakes and the steering is power-assisted hydraulic steering with tilt adjustment. The V-cross is 5,295mm long, 1860mm wide and 1840mm tall and weighs in at 1905 kg (kerb). It rides on an independent double wishbone with coil spring suspension on the front and a soft ride leaf spring suspension on the rear with iGRIP (Isuzu Gravity Response Intelligent Platform) for superior stability and road holding capability in all conditions.

The exteriors feature a projector headlamp with LED daytime running lights, LED tail lights roof rails and chrome highlights.

The interior features luxurious black leather seats and 6-way electrically adjustable driver seat and cruise control in the V-Cross High and integrated keyless entry, a 6-way adjustable driver seat and an automatic climate control AC. The new version may see an update over the old infotainment system.

The V-Cross is unlike any other car sold in the Indian market. At the given price point, it has absolutely no competition. Also, it is loved by those who want the butch looks and more tough real estate on wheels. The new updated Isuzu V-Cross is expected to be priced higher than what it asks for at the moment.
