Written by Nizam Shaikh

Austrian Powersports brand KTM has launched the 2020 range of their entry-level 125cc motorcycles; the KTM 125 Duke and the KTM RC 125 in India. The 2020 models will now be BSVI emission compliant and will be available for sale from the end of February 2020 at a starting price of INR 1,38,041 ex-showroom, Delhi.

The new KTM 125 Duke and RC 125 now come with fresh new graphics and colours. The KTM 125 Duke & RC 125 is powered by a 124.7cc, single-cylinder, 4-Valve, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, DOHC engine that produces 14.5 PS of power @ 9,250 and 12 Nm of torque @ 8,000 rpm. Stopping power on the 125 Duke comes from a single 300mm disc on the front with a 4-piston fixed caliper and a 230mm disc with a single-piston floating caliper on the rear. For safety, the motorbike is equipped with a Bosch Single Channel ABS. The chassis on the bikes is a steel trellis frame with WP 43mm diameter upside-down suspension on the front and a WP monoshock on the rear.

The RC 125 which is the Race Competition (RC) derivative shares all its technical specifications with the 125 Duke except for its fuel tank capacity and weight. Where the KTM 125 Duke gets a 10.5-litre fuel tank the RC 125 gets a 9.5-litre tank. The 125 Duke weighs in at 141.4 kg (W/O Fuel) whereas the RC 125 weighs in at 154.2 kg (W/O Fuel).

The BSVI compliant models of both the KTM 125 Duke and RC 125 will be available for sale by the end of next month across all KTM showrooms. The 125 Duke will be priced at INR 1,38,041 ex-showroom, Delhi which now sees a price hike of INR 5,541 as compared to the BSIV compliant model which is being sold at INR 1,32,500 ex-showroom, Delhi and the RC 125 is priced at INR 1,55,277 ex-showroom, Delhi which is INR 6,527 more than the BSIV model priced at INR 1,48,750 ex-showroom, Delhi.

The 125cc KTM motorcycles have helped the brand gain more market share with incremental sales. With the true KTM DNA of Ready to Race, these bikes although not the best in terms of power at the given price point, still are the most engaging motorcycles with a better package overall compared to rivals.
